Did God Forgive David? (Psalm 51)

When we study David’s life, especially Psalm 51, we see that the nature of God’s forgiveness is far deeper and more complex than we often think.

David sinned grievously — adultery, deception, and murder.
He repented sincerely — Psalm 51 records his broken-hearted confession.
And God forgave him — but not without earthly consequences.

2 Samuel 12:11–12 shows the severity of the consequences:

"Out of your own household I am going to bring calamity on you...You did it in secret, but I will do this thing in broad daylight before all Israel.”

After David confessed his sin: 2 Samuel 12:13–14 says:

"The Lord has taken away your sin. You are not going to die. But because by doing this you have shown utter contempt for the Lord, the son born to you will die.”

So, my question to you is this: did God truly forgive David?
