BE STILL AND KNOW THAT I AM GOD
Psalm 46: BE STILL AND KNOW THAT I AM GOD
It’s been 10 full days of non-stop sickness in our house. My wife jokingly blames me for preaching recently on “God’s suffering before, with, and for us.” She says the test came too quickly after the sermon! But jokes aside—it’s been tough.
We’ve come up with three theories to explain it all:
Maybe God is testing us.
Maybe it’s a taste of Christ’s suffering, especially during Holy Week.
Or... maybe it’s just COVID—nothing spiritual.
Whatever the reason, Psalm 46 speaks clearly into our moment:
“God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.” (Psalm 46:1)
In times of struggle—whether physical, emotional, or spiritual—God invites us to do three things:
Find refuge in Him
Draw strength from Him
Be aware of His presence, even in trouble
And when the questions come—Why this suffering? Why now?—God gently replies:
“Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.” (Psalm 46:10)
Sometimes, the most spiritual thing we can do is stop striving, be still, and trust that God is still God.
