Who Really Rules the Earth?
Psalm 47 makes bold declarations about God's authority:
He is the great King over all the earth (v.2)
He is King of all the earth (v.7)
He reigns over the nations (v.8)
The kings of the earth belong to God (v.9)
That last one—“The kings of the earth belong to God”—is striking. It means that presidents, prime ministers, and global leaders are ultimately under His rule, even when it doesn’t seem like it.
Last week, I saw a comic that stuck with me. Here’s a paraphrase:
Me: “God, how long is a thousand years to you?”
God: “About a second.”
Me: “How much is a million dollars to you?”
God: “Just a few pennies.”
Me: “Can I have a few pennies?”
God: “Just a second.”
Behind the humor is a powerful truth: God's perspective is not ours. His timing and rule operate far above what we can see.
