What Do You Think About the "Sons of God" in Genesis 6?
As we explore the story of Noah, I wanted to invite your thoughts on one of the more mysterious verses in Genesis:
Genesis 6:2 says, “The sons of God saw that the daughters of humans were beautiful, and they married any of them they chose.”
Historically, some have concluded that these "sons of God" were:
Angelic Beings (Fallen Angels):
An ancient view found in Jewish writings and early Christian thinkers like Justin Martyr and Tertullian. It suggests these were angels who sinned by taking human wives. Some see support for this in Jude 6–7 and 2 Peter 2:4–5. However, others argue that angels don’t marry (Matt. 22:30), and this view faded in the Western Church after the 4th century. Still, many modern scholars find it plausible based on the Hebrew phrase bene ha’elohim (used for divine beings in Job 1:6).
I’d love to hear your thoughts! Which view do you lean toward – and why?
