What’s Your Excuse?

Jeremiah 1:6

“Alas, Sovereign Lord,” I said, “I do not know how to speak; I am too young.”

When I was first called into ministry in Manchester, England, I felt a little like Jeremiah. I was a recent immigrant. Surrounded by people who seemed more confident, more qualified, more settled—I felt like an outsider.

I felt too black in a country of white people,
too poor in a land of wealth,
too uneducated in a culture that celebrated degrees.

But soon, I realized: it was never about me.
It was about them—the people God deeply loves.
And even more, it was about Him—the One who gave His life for them.

I had to obey—not in my strength, but in His.

"Yet not I, but through Christ in me."

So I ask you today: What is your excuse?

God has always used people who didn’t feel ready:

  • Abraham was too old

  • Moses couldn’t speak well

  • Gideon was too weak

  • Esther was afraid

  • Peter was impulsive

  • Paul had a past

Yet God said:
“My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.”
— 2 Corinthians 12:9

Remember—you're not alone. And it’s not about your ability, but your availability.

If God is calling, obey. He will do the rest.
